Student rock bands
Our student rock bands offers group performance opportunities for beginners through advanced players. Over the years, Music Notes Academy rock bands have performed in concerts, recitals, battle of the bands competitions, local community events and student music festivals. Past highlights include our rock bands recording at the Barbershop Recording Studio in Hopatcong, NJ and performing live at Somerset Patriots Baseball Stadium in Bridgewater, NJ.
Our rock band program began in September ’08. It was an exciting time at Music Notes Academy. Bringing students together, holding auditions, developing bands and preparing for shows, festivals and recording sessions. We had rock band classes and rehearsals in Madison, NJ from ’08 through ’11. Starting with School Year ’11-’12 we moved the rock band program to our East Brunswick, NJ Academy.
Start your band
Beginner Band will improve each student’s performance skills and techniques within a group setting. Instruction will focus on learning classic and contemporary rock songs, performance techniques, stage presence, collaborative musicianship skills and supportive performance skills under the guidance of a teacher.
A continuation of Beginner Band, Intermediate includes reading rock charts, studying the art of improvisation, learning advanced performance techniques and learning how a rock band functions and operates in today’s music industry. Repertoire will include songs from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and today.
Advanced Band 1 includes reading rock charts, studying the art of improvisation, learning advanced performance techniques and learning how a rock band functions and operates in today’s music industry. Songs will include covers from the 70’s through today.
Advanced Band 2 includes improvisation, advanced performance and stage techniques and learning about the music business. Performs in a variety of events and records in a professional recording studio with an engineer and producer.
Original Rock Band is a combination of performing rock songs, learning how to write original rock songs as a band and learning how to record using Pro Tools software. Students should have an interest in learning cover songs, writing songs and learning how to record their original music using Pro Tools with an instructor. This Band is for advanced-level students only.
An advanced-level band, students will learn and perform rock songs that are recently popular.
Singer-Songwriter Band was new for the ’10-’11 school year. This band is for students who want to perform music by great singer-songwriters. Songs will be chosen and centered around the band members and singers. A great band for students who want to sing songs by contemporary and popular male and female artists. Like with all of our Rock Bands, our singers receive vocal coaching from our voice teachers. Sometimes we have guest speakers and visiting artists attend the rock band rehearsals.
All-Star Band was new for school year ’10-’11. Interestingly enough, this band was developed specifically for one of our guitar students, Matthew. This band is for advanced-level students who want to focus on soloing, perform challenging repertoire by virtuoso musicians and want to showcase their chops. Centered around rock music, the curriculum included blues, progressive rock and Jazz. Music Notes Academy teachers performed with this band.
